Web standards is a general term for the formal standards and other technical specifications that define and describe aspects of the World Wide Web.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a stylesheet language used to describe the presentation of a document written in a markup language.
The benefits of CSS enable the separation of document content (written in HTML or a similar markup language) from document presentation (written in CSS).
